Financial Support for Families & Carers

The Carer Support Fund

The Carer Support Fund provides one-off financial support to families or carers, in situations where extra funds can ease a situation that might lead to crisis. A family member or carer may work on an application with a case manager, who will then submit the application to the service manager.

The Carer Allowance & Carer Payment

Centrelink provides some financial support to family members and carers who have caring responsibilities for someone experiencing mental illness. This support is mainly available when the employment of the carer is impacted by their caring role, or their ability to work is impacted by their caring role. For more information, see the Services Australia website https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/ or contact a customer service officer or social worker at Centrelink. Ask your family member’s case manager or doctor for assistance with your application.
