Time to Reflect (TTR) is a six session professional development series for secondary school wellbeing staff (e.g. Student Welfare Coordinators, Year Level Coordinators, Student Support Services Officers, School-based Nurses, Chaplains and Youth Workers) working in the north-west area of Melbourne, aimed at enhancing confidence and competence in recognising and responding to mental health needs of students. TTR is jointly provided by OYH and Travancore School and runs twice a year (in term 2 and 3) but can be run more frequently if needed.
The TTR series has been designed to provide information regarding the identification and intervention for mental health problems, while also creating an opportunity to meet and explore current work practices through the use of reflection. To achieve this, each session will include a presentation on a chosen topic, and a reflective practice session. Throughout the course, participants will be encouraged to use case examples to highlight current practice issues, providing the opportunity for participants to feel supported in their work, while also exploring other creative ways to respond to the mental health needs of students.
The TTR series will cover topics such as:
- Working with mental health services
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Psychosis
- Self-harm & suicide
- Challenging behaviours, and
- Eating disorders
