Suit Up & Ride

Patrick McGorry & Cadel Evans

Suit Up & Ride is a team cycling event with a twist – participants must wear corporate attire (or their designated uniforms i.e. police, ambulance, fire crews), what they would normally wear to work or outlandish team outifits, and race on Melbourne Bike Share bikes in a time trial. It’s all about team work, having some fun while doing something good for you, and good for youth mental health.

Suit Up and Ride 2013

Frank Health Insurance the victorious riders on the storm!

A Huge Thank You to everyone for Suit Up and Ride 2013

Thank you to everyone who braved the cold and wet and even hail at times to compete in Suit Up and Ride and support young people with mental illness on Thursday 5th December 2013.

Congratulations to the 2013 Suit Up and Ride Champions: Frank Health Insurance who knocked off rivals Qantas Flight Crew and Grocon, who finished in second and third place respectively.

Team times for the heats and finals can be viewed here

This is a wonderful result for Frank Health Insurance who is also a sponsor of Suit Up and Ride. Frank Health Insurance donated the first prize of a framed national suit worn and signed by Cadel Evans. The team generously donated it back to be auctioned online to raise even more money for Orygen Youth Health.

For those who missed the prize ceremony the winners were:

1st Place: Frank Health Insurance

2nd Place: Qantas Flight Crew

3rd Place: Grocon

Best Dressed: The Turi Trust Team

2nd Best Dressed: MMG Team 2

Best suited: Qantas Cabin Crew

Last Place: RUSU Ambassadors

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors: Qantas, MMG, Frank Health Insurance and City of Melbourne. We couldn't do it without you and we appreciate your support.

Thank you to Hydralyte and Subway for hydrating and feeding our participants and volunteers, and Melbourne Bike Share for use of the bikes.

Thank you to our prize donors too: Frank Health Insurance, Maggie Beer, Hydralyte, Winners Bars, Diadora, Nespresso, Fit for All, Six30 Compression Gear, Wingman, Grill'd and Footys 4 All.

And of course to all our teams who donated to participate in the event. Over the four years of the event almost $270,000 has been raised for Orygen Youth Health research projects. These include innovative online e-mental health initiatives, our Family Peer Support program and our vocational recovery programs which help young people to return to school, study or to find work. These are vital funds that have truly made a huge difference to the lives of young people with mental health issues.

Thank you to our special friends Cadel Evans and Matt Goss for taking the time to attend our little event. They are very special champions and we’ll all be cheering in the middle of the night when they take on those Alps in Italy and France again next year.

Thank you to Curtis Sinclair for sharing his inspirational story with us on the day, and also to the most enthusiastic crocodile in the world, Crikey Cadel for venturing all the way from Perth to join us this year.

To our MMG and OYH volunteers...hope you are finally warm and thank you for all your hard work in adverse circumstances. We think you are awesome!

And to Signature Sport and KSJ Events, thanks for a wonderful, smoothly run event.

Suit Up and Ride 2012

Cadel Evans recaptured his winning ways and joined the Grocon team as victors at Suit Up and Ride on Friday, November 23rd, 2012.

The Grocon team, aided by Cadel, beat a field of 40 teams to race in a final time trail showdown with Frank Health Insurance who were joined by professional Dutch cyclist from Team Argos Shimano, Koen de Kort. It was the second year running that Cadel had been paired with the Grocon team, this year going one better and taking the title of Suit Up and Ride Champions.

Dressed in suits and ties, uniforms and some teams in crazy animal outfits, the team participants descended on Waterfront City, Docklands to compete in perfect weather conditions in time trials on the Melbourne Bike Share bikes along the short New Quay course.

Prizes from Bike Force and Hydralyte were awarded to the two fastest teams, Grocon and Frank Health Insurance. Fastest women's team was the Department of Justice Team 3. The "Take the Train" award for the time-challenged slowest team went to Air Liquide Team 2. However, they won personal training vouchers from the fantastic Tammmy Curtis of Fit for All, so they are certain to be a force to be reckoned with next year.

Highest fundraising team was Industry Funds Management who received 120 x 120ml of gourmet Maggie Beer Ice Cream delivered to their workplace!

It was too hard to choose a best dressed winner out of The Turi Foods Trust and Elite Customer Solutions, so they were both winners with both teams decked out in elaborate animal themed outfits!

After the formalities of racing, the crowd was treated to a rare performance by Hunters and Collectors fronted by Mark Seymour.

Thank you to Cadel, Koen de Kort and Mark Seymour and the Hunters and Collectors for supporting this event. And thank you to our fantastic sponsors: City of Melbourne, MMG, Frank Health Insurance, Habourtown Shopping Centre, New Quay and our hydration partner: Hydralyte, and water and volunteer sustenance provider: Subway.

Suit Up and Ride 2011

In 2011, Tour de France Winner Cadel Evans and Tour de France rising star Matt Goss, plus Fox FM’s Matt Tilley, and ARIA Award winning Clare Bowditch contributed their talents to Suit Up & Ride.

Thanks to our wonderful teams and sponsors and Fox FM and their Champ vs Chump race on the morning of Suit Up and Ride, over $156,000 was raised for Orygen Youth Health last year.

These valuable funds have been allocated to vital Orygen Youth Health research projects in the area of suicide prevention, vocational and social recovery, trauma, e-youth mental health initiatives and programs such as the Family Peer Support Program, a program that helps families with a newly diagnosed son or daughter with a mental illness by offering advice and mentoring to help them through these difficult times.
