Professor Patrick McGorry awarded the Order of Australia

I am sure you will join with everyone at OYH in congratulating Professor Patrick McGorry on being made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to medicine and to mental health. As a leading clinician, researcher and scientist, his innovative reform of services, the development of national programs to support youth and his tireless campaign to raise public awareness around mental

This is further recognition of the work that Patrick has been involved with for nearly 30 years and his continual drive to ensure treatment for all those people whose lives are touched by mental ill health, in particular young people. With his Australian of the Year accolade awarded earlier this year it seems that the mental health of Australians’ is finally being placed on the national agenda.

After receiving his award Patrick said that “it was a huge honour which flows from the dedication of wonderful colleagues and the patient support of my family. I also want to dedicate it to the millions of Australians who experience mental ill health, the majority of whom we still fail to help. Its time for a fair go. "
