One in four young people are likely to experience mental illness. Demand on Orygen Youth Health services is at an all time high. Sadly, many young people desperately needing treatment will have to be turned away, as we just don’t have the resources to give them the quality treatment they deserve. Failure to recognise and treat mental illness has lasting adverse effects on a young person’s life. In addition, more money is desperately needed for research, so we can find the answers to help these young people.
You can help Orygen Youth Health Research Centre by donating to the following areas: research projects, advocacy and mentor groups for young people, group program activities and resources to ensure OYH young people receive the timely and effective treatment they deserve.
Research Areas Needing Funding
OYH-RC aims to understand the biological, psychological and social factors that influence onset, remission and relapse of mental illness in order to find better ways to prevent and/or reduce the impact of mental disorders. It conducts both basic neuroscience and clinical research.
Research areas of focus are early psychosis, depression, substance use disorders, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, anxiety and stress, vocation and social recovery and eating disorders. Funding is desperately needed in all of the above areas of research. At OYH-RC we pride ourselves on translating all that we learn in our research into better service outcomes for young people with mental health or substance use issues. Your donation will make a valued difference.
